Bay Classic
(From “Lordy” in the crowd) OK first
off, who’s burnt their heads? With loads of cloud cover who would have thought you could get a tan but we did, was it
worth it? YES! What a great days racing even if I am viewing from the stands. Where do we start? Well a quick shout out to
the other classes, yes I watched all the Finals. First off
Mini Stox Winner #104 Jayne Barton did it again and in fine style, you could say easy but that
would take away a strong drive through the field well done lass! Junior
Rookies winner Harry Preston #31, first came across Harry in the minis after he sent me a few messages on
line regarding racing, I have kept an eye out for him on track and over the last few seasons he’s turned
into a good driver, a few of the stocker lads will be hoping he goes straight into the bangers and leaves them well alone. Senior
minis and it was #12 Andy Yeats taking the spoils but who was that in 2nd? I hoped it wasn’t Steven
Crane as he’d aged a bit in 2 weeks; it was of course his dad “Old Mr. Crane #512, stop messing about in the mini
class and get back in a stock car! Supers
were thin on the ground again but there was interest in a rear engine special new to Warton, 9 cars on grid and the
first 3 were #6 (ex-Makin car) #47 Dan Wright was second, and #802 Graeme Black who as always was wrestling with
his car to get it in front of Pete Wells #555 (meeting sponsor). Bangers
I’m sorry guys not sure of names but the Tegra took the win easy as it was the quickest
and he was racing and not trying to destroy himself …well done whoever you are ..(The unknown driver?) There were 24 or more Stockcars at the meeting including
brother “ACE”#234 and “Dad” #777 both cars going well in a one off practice session for new cars,
both went Tits up on the last lap of practice …. They will be back! Heat 1….. went as expected well almost, no one
had handed the script to Mick Bell#19 so he was away and running and after knocking his way through the lower grade cars
found himself with a handsome lead, not sure if it's the NASCAR suit but he was on it, until the yellows were thrown
for some silliness on the back straight, on the re-start he was away but caught by “Hoggy #123”. These two were
well clear of Harris #24 in third. A quick mention to Fawcett #672 who earned his wings after flying over Tommy’s #158
bonnet taking with him Deno’s #23 wing in the process (£175 from all good wing manufacturers) . Heat 2 ….. Once again #19 Bell was away and the chase was on, first out of the blocks from
the back was hard hitting Tommy#158 and young “Stav” #76, but it was Tommy showing them the way to the flag. They
finished #158, #19, and #76. Where was #123/ He managed to collect the #216 car of Martin Thompson and was launched into the
infield curb resulting in terminal damage, that was his day done leaving the door open for the points chaser Stav #76 to play
“Catch Up”. Final … and another hectic battle, cars off all over the place, #672, #167, #829 all side lined
by half distance. Guess who was going to take advantage of the situation? ….Yes Stav #76 he was on a mission but didn’t
have it all his own way. Tommy Ticker #158 (Warton’s Silver Top Champ) wanted it just as much and chassed Stav all the
way to the line, who was third, I hear you ask? #19 Mike GN… 17 points the gap at the start of the day between #123 and #76 so that meant Stav needed
to finish 4th or better if he wanted to lead the table by the end of play. The race started and it was #106 Ian
Barton who was the man to watch, easily moving through the lower grade drivers and taking the lead, but Tommy #158 had other
ideas. He didn’t have to go in all guns blazing as Ian started to suffer under steer problems. As the race progressed,
Tommy went into the lead on't “Pit Bend” with a few laps to go and never looked in danger of loosing the lead;
Fawcett #672 came home a creditable 3rd. Where was Stav? Well he was 4th and now leads the points table
by 2 points. MOVERS AND SHAKERS AND “I DON’T BELIVE IT” As I have
just said Stav #76 leads the points with Hoggy #123 in second, Tommy blasts into 3rd place after doubling his points
in one meeting. Beefy #19 and Wez #524 move back into the red grades at the expense of Ian Barton #106 who leads the blues
(I don’t believe it). Glen Scott #177 takes his place in the blues after finishing in the
top 8 in all the races on Sunday and realises you don’t need your to be
on fire to get a mention on here! In the pits … who saw the off side rear wheel
on the #9 Other news …. Some of the infield marshal stands are looking tatty and may be moved or re-moved
altogether what do you think? Let the powers that be know what you think; sometimes they do listen to reason! And finally
Ian Jaggers #60 was involved in a RTA a few days ago, he’s in NEXT MEETING
