All race
suits that we wear whilst we race are now to be flame retardent and should have a TPP CODE.
TPP: TPP ratings indicate the length of
time the person wearing the garment can be exposed to a heat source before incurring a second degree or skin-blistering burn.
The higher the value, the longer before you will incur a second degree burn. Divide the TPP Rating by 2 in order to measure
the time until a second degree burn incurs: most suits we use are rated from 6-20 which means 3-10 seconds of time to get
out of the car, unless you are buying F1 race suits at £3000 then you are looking at 19-40 sec. These are only approximate
times ...... why am I telling you this? For the last few seasons I have worn flame proof underwear and if you are quick enough
there are some USAF "NOMEX" SHIRT & LONG JOHNS SETS ON NOW.... ( again this year 2012) these
sets are new and only £10ish .... made from Nomex fire retardent thread that can't be washed
out ....Race sets are around £150 from motorsport dealers!
